Torment by Lauren Kate

To be loved by someone across the centuries...To have someone so devoted to you that they can't help but seek you out after your every reincarnation into the world...To have someone so selfless they would sacrifice their own life...the love everyone seeks in life or is it?  Luce has the ultimate in love and devotion from Daniel but is it enough?  To have someone who has been in love with you for centuries starts to sound more like a curse than a blessing to Luce.  Lauren Kate has beautifully written yet another chapter in Luce's most recent incarnation of herself.

Ascendant (Killer Unicorns #2) by Diana Peterfreund

Upon reading the description for this book, I was extremely curious. I have never come across killer unicorns as a subject matter before and was a little unsure about the book but very intrigued. I am so glad I took a chance on reading this book because I really enjoyed it. The book was very well written and held my attention throughout. Astrid was a character I could indentify with and believe most people could not only because of her internal struggles in the book but also because of the pressure placed upon her by herself and other to "live up to" her legacy. The pain she experiences when she tries to do the right thing but it all comes crashing down around her made me think to myself "bless her heart. Been there, done that". I would highly recommend giving this book a chance.

Ummm ok

So I have been EXTREMELY lax in makings posts to my blog.  BUT! I have good reasons.  My dear hubby is getting ready to deploy soon so things around here have been insane.  Thats the bad news.  The good news is with him being gone more, I have lots of time to read at night and therefore posts will be coming more frequently.  I have a ton of books to add reviews for and I'm really excited about all of the books I've got lined up to read!

The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Nightfall

"Now that a supernatural force has brought Elena back from the dead, all handsome, brooding Stefan wants is to keep her safe. But when he is lured away from Fell's Church, sleek, powerful Damon seizes his chance to win Elena over, unaware of the danger they're both in. A malevolent being has infiltrated the town and is growing stronger. Able to possess Damon at will, the creature is also drawn to Elena and the new power she has acquired. But it's after more than Elena's power: It thirsts for her death."  L.J. Smith

The first four books of this series was first released when I was in college.  During that time vampires didn't have the draw that they currently do and only a few people were reading books of this genre.  Upon hearing that a continuation of the story line was going to be released, I was very excited. Unfortunately my joy was short lived.  The first third of the book was a touching scene between Stefan and Elena upon her return to the world of the living.  Stefan's patience, love and understanding with Elena's childlike behavior made the characters that much more lovable to me. From there though the book begins to take on a chaotic writing style that caused me at many points to wonder what in the world was going on in the story line.  It was almost as if the writer became aware of a time crunch for publication and started throwing in as much information as possible.  Damon's storyline of being possessed by evil was choppy and extremely hard to follow as were the subplots concerning Matt, Bonnie, Meredith and Caroline. Upon finishing the book, I was very disappointed and was beginning to doubt if I would put in the effort to read the next book in the series The Vampire Diaries: The Return: Shadow Souls.  At this point I am less than enthusiastic about continuing the series.  Most likely I will read the next book because I hate to leave a series unfinished but it has been moved down on my reading list to at a minimum until it is release in paperback.

So many great books, so little time...

I am an avid reader.  In a world that is always so chaotic and full of turmoil, books are a lifeline for me.  A way for me to step back, let my mind be free to wander and escape the tangled web of my life.  The reason I'm delving into the world of blogging is that with my short memory, I can glance back and remember books that I've enjoyed and may want to revisit.  Also if perchance my musings help someone else find a great book to enjoy, all the better...
